Congressman Castro Announces $18 Million to Expand Operations at San Antonio Airport
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) announced that San Antonio International Airport will receive $18 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to support expanded operations, including the development of a new terminal connector to allow passengers to move between terminals without having to leave and re-enter secure areas.
“San Antonio International Airport is our portal to the rest of the world. Over the last year, the airport has seen incredible growth – setting new passenger records and expanding nonstop flights to domestic and international destinations. This new grant funding will help the airport continue to expand, bringing new jobs, visitors, and economic growth to San Antonio,” said Congressman Castro. “Three years ago, I voted to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to kickstart a bright new vision for America’s future and I’m glad to see the law continuing to deliver for our city.”
The funding announced today will support the environmental review and partial design of a new terminal connector and associated enabling projects for the new Terminal C. The connector will provide access between the two existing terminals, enabling passengers to move between them without having to exit the secure area and re-enter.
Following the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Congressman Castro and other members of the San Antonio delegation wrote to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to request funding for improvement projects at San Antonio International Airport. The funding announced today comes in addition to $20 million that Congressman Castro announced in February 2023 to support the construction of a Ground Load Facility at the airport, which will include the addition of new gates with terminal seating and other passenger facilities for domestic and international operations.
